Would you like to be a part of helping us in the purchase of a new adapted van?!?!
Above and below are pictures of our current van with a ramp. It is a tremendous aid in transporting Rylie anywhere and everywhere. It allows Rylie to stay in her wheelchair during transportation as opposed to one of us lifting her in and out of the van into a special needs car seat. As she has gotten older and much bigger, this has become a physical necessity for us and her. We purchased this van after fundraising about 6 years ago and have since put over 80,000 miles on it. I would say at least half of those miles have been put on the van taking Rylie to and from appointments. In fact, on an average week of appointments, we will drive between 30 and 60 miles total, if the appointments are within Cleveland area. This doesn’t include driving to Columbus several times a year for specialty appointments! The ramp and motor to the ramp have had multiple repairs over the years along with general repairs to the van itself. It has served us well these last few years. All that to say, a reliable, easily accessible vehicle is extremely important for our family!
Due to the harsh winters with insane amounts of salt that trucks dump to prevent ice, it has caused a great amount of rust under the van on the frame and as shown in the picture below, to the doors as well. We have also had a lot of trouble off and on with the ramp and tilt function on this van which was made to deploy and lift the ramp with a motor, and a tilt function to create an easier angle for her wheelchair to go up. Because these functions are not working properly we are currently lifting the ramp manually which is pretty awkward and a literal backache as it was not made to be easily done this way. Our local mechanic has been pleading with us for months to start raising funds to replace our van, especially after the last incident left Lorie and Rylie stranded on I-90 in rush hour traffic!
SO, all that to say - We need a new van!!!! Pictures (above) are to give you an idea of how functional and necessary the van is for Rylie, and the condition (below) of our current van. We are looking to purchase a newer, already modified minivan. Fortunately in recent years the newer models have come with much better rust prevention and smoother ramp systems than our older van.
We hope to utilize the newer van for MANY years to come!!!
Our goal is to raise $45,000 to cover the cost of a newer, already modified van with a side entry ramp.
